November 2000 - Electronics Unlimited News You Can Use

Greetings! In this issue, we feature an article about internet search engines. One of our customers suggested an article on this topic. We hope to cover some other topics that have been suggested to us in future issues. We welcome suggestions for our newsletter. Feel free to email or call us with your ideas.

Last month, Electronics Unlimited participated in the Beaverton Chamber Trade Show on October 11th at the Embassy Suites Hotel along with 70 other businesses. The trade show allowed us to focus on our company's philosophy of providing exceptional and personalized customer service for our customers. In addition, we were interviewed by the Oregonian for a follow-up article about the Beaverton Chamber Trade Show.

How Do Search Engines Work?

Search engines work in conjunction with your internet brower. A search engine is a program that finds information by allowing you to type in a word or phrase then pressing enter or clicking the search button. This is especially useful when you don't know the precise URL (Universal Resource Locator) of the web site you wish to visit. Perhaps you were wanting information on the Oregon State Parks for summer camping. You could type in "Oregon State Parks" on the search engine to try and find the internet location.

There are several search engines you can use each of which searches for information differently. Here are some of the popular search engines:

Yahoo.com
Altavista.com
Excite.com
Lycos. com

Here are some of the latest search engines to try:

Google.com
Ask.com
Go.com
Northernlight.com
Alltheweb.com

Each search engine works a little bit differently. The search engines use different search methods to retrieve information from the internet. That's why it is always a good idea to use more than one search engine to find the information you need. For research, we recommend trying at least two different search engines for optimum results. The best search engine indexes only about 20% of the information on the web.
